About MB Developments

MB Developments now have two new employees.

Ian Hepworth who has become Marks right hand man with the job of modernising the company. Ian is the main man behind the website. Ian's role is to modernise stock control, invoicing, ordering and bringing the e-commerce site on-line. As a keen scooterist himself he is knowledgeable with Lambrettas, Vespas and also Automatics, giving Mark more time away from the phone and front desk making MB Developments more efficient with their time.

Our other new employee is Carl Williams who has been taken on as Marks apprentice.
Carl rides a Suzuki Katana and is showing signs of a promising future in 2 stroke engineering.
He has been given the nickname "Whistler" because of his habit of whistling repetatively louder than the radio!

MB DEVELOPMENTS have rebuilt and supplied parts for some of the worlds top custom scooters, often winning their class, Lambretta or Vespa. We produce fast reliable engines, ones that are used daily, showing that our race tuning is not just for winning on the track!

MB DEVELOPMENTS probably has the best equipped workshop in the UK specifically designed for manufacturing and engineering for Italian styled scooters.

MB DEVELOPMENTS are the largest manufacturer of parts in the UK for Lambretta and Vespa spares.

MB DEVELOPMENTS have probably produced more high class quality reconditioned engines, and tuned more cylinder kits, with over 1100 kits produced to date all of which are logged and a full record kept on'each once giving a back up second to none!

MB DEVELOPMENTS from the start has aimed at increasing a quality supply of spares and engineering, choosing not to supply cheap alternatives.

MB DEVELOPMENTS have been involved with classic Lambrettas and Vespas for over twenty years and have now been in business for thirteen, specialising in manufacturing and supplying quality classic Lambretta and Vespa standard and performance parts, throughout this time MB Developments have aimed to improve the supply of quality spares. We see so many cheap and nasty inferior parts sold by other manufacturers and suppliers, MBD are not in the business to sell these parts. All our parts are used by ourselves and we aim, as much as possible, to achieve 100% reliability whatever the product! Because we manufacture most parts in our workshop, with our small but dedicated team, we can keep an eye on quality control. If there is ever a problem and its pointed out we do our best to remedy it there and then.

MB DEVELOPMENTS are possibly the largest manufacturer of Lambretta and Vespa spares in the UK. We have a purpose built manufacturing engineering workshop and aim to do as much as possible in house. For years we subbed work out only to find quality control out of our hands and supply time difficult to say the least. Obviously we cannot do everything, but over the years have found good reliable manufacturers and suppliers. These firms are chosen for their quality and reliability so hopefully we offer a quality service second to none.

MB DEVELOPMENTS constantly offer advice to other Scooter dealers on a full range of subjects from carburation problems, general repairs to design and manufacturing problems. We tune, rebuild engines, carry out conversions and repair parts for a large number of Scooter dealers. If Scooter dealers rely on our services then that says a lot about our services and products. MBD have been at the forefront of innovation, design and development for a large number of years, often first with a conversion or having the ability to improve an existing conversion. MB Developments have at some time done every conversion that seems to keep coming around again and again, we know what works and what doesn't. Some unique products designed by MB Developments have often been copied BEWARE OF CHEAP IMITATIONS we research and test our products, some copiers don't even copy correctly SO BEWARE! At the end of the day peoples lives are at stake! We don't want a death on our hands and every effort is put into our designs to make them practical, effective and safe.

STAINLESS STEEL BY MB DEVELOPMENTS
Lets face it the majority of Lambrettas and Vespas are now considered classic and collectable. MB DEVELOPMENTS have been at the forefront of introducing stainless steel items for classic scooters. We at MB Developments cannot see the reasoning in restoring and rebuilding a classic scooter, whether it's a restoration, standard, street racer or custom scooter, then using standard fasteners only to have them rust in a few months or years. MB Developments carry over 35,000 stainless steel fasteners, they are reusable and don't rust. Stainless steel fasteners can be cheaper than plain steel or plated fasteners yet have improved quality. MB Developments manufacture a variety of parts in stainless steel. Stainless is more expensive, harder to machine and work with, hence this is reflected in the price, but the end quality product is well worth it. Stainless products can be polished to a chrome-like finish but don't flake or rust.

INDUCTION BY MB DEVELOPMENTS
We have designed and manufactured more varieties of Lambretta cast alloy inlet manifolds than anyone ever before, allowing the use of carburettors of all shapes and sizes for every application.

CASTINGS BY MB DEVELOPMENTS
We offer a wide variety of castings whether it's a standard remade replacement part, a new design or a custom part. These castings are cast locally whilst the pattern making and machining are done by ourselves. The demand for Lambretta spares throughout the world now means more and more parts are now made much cheaper in Italy, India, Vietnam or Taiwan. Unfortunately for us parts made in the UK are more expensive and we can not compete with cheap imported spares but hopefully the quality reflects in the price of our spares. The majority of spares that MB Developments manufacture are Lambretta, our reason for this is the majority of Vespa spares are available from Italy and we can not compete with Italian prices!

TOOLS BY MB DEVELOPMENTS
MB Developments remake more Lambretta and Vespa tools than any one else. Coming from an engineering back ground we realise the need for practical high-quality workshop tools. We use these tools in our own workshop on a daily basis, again BEWARE there are some inferior MBD copies on the market.

BEARINGS, SEALS AND GASKETS
MB Developments specialise in stocking the best quality parts available, again coming from an engineering background we understand the need for quality. We have done a deal with our bearing supplier not only to supply, in our opinion, the best bearings in the world but our bearings have COME DOWN IN PRICE! MB Developments gaskets are manufactured in the UK of top quality materials and we have used these for years with no problems. MB Developments seals are imported. The quality is excellent yet the prices are probably the cheapest around, we have used the same seals for thirteen years and never had a failure! These seals are used by Nissan, if they're good enough for them then they are good enough for Lambretta and Vespa engines.

BADGES BY MB DEVELOPMENTS
MB Developments make and stock more Lambretta badges than any other company, these are cast and chromed in the UK made to a top quality standard. When casting you get 3% shrinkage, our patterns are made allowing for this so the pegs fit. BEWARE the market has now been flooded with cheaper badges and castings that don't fit and some of the quality is poor to say the least!

A QUICK WORD FROM MARK
In the last year MB Developments have kept a low profile choosing not to advertise, do any shows or rallies. For no reason but to settle down, take a break, sit back and look at what's going on. We now only work five days a week giving us time to take up other interests and be with family. As you know you can be at work 24 hours a day and believe me I have had my break down through over working and ended up in hospital, its not worth it. MBD open less hours, but work more efficiently so something has worked. Forgetting all this we haven't been quiet, we have increased our stock levels and number of products available from MB Developments.

NEW PRODUCTS
Over the last year MB Developments have been busy designing and re manufacturing new products some of which are listed below.
WIRING LOOMS
We have made black looms for years but we have now started manufacturing grey looms as per original. We choose to crimp plastic coated terminals, this when done correctly is more reliable and safer.
MACHINED PARTS
Front hub bearing spacers, stainless steel fork link caps, fork link overhaul kits, weld on 200 fork brackets, stainless steel gear pivot, 1.5mm outer kick start washer, stainless steel rear hub lockwasher, stata plate wiring clamp, Li, SX and GP legshield end caps, battery strap and fixings.
