Make and model: GP200 1971.
Bought scooter: 1990 for £325.
Time to build: 1 year.
Who built it: Myself and Marc Broadhurst, but MB did most of the work and I must say it was excellent. Marc is very friendly, you can talk to him, but he is great at his job.
Engine: 230cc TS1 conversion by MB (stage 7), Taffspeed exhaust, Gearing SX150, carb 34mm Amal (Powerjet).
Frame mods: IMCA rear shock, Kawasaki front dampers, twin petrol tank, MB hydraulic front disc, legshield toolbox, Scitsu rev counter.
Paint: Trotsky's but she'll be redone shortly by S & H Superpaints (Nick Jolly).
Hardest bit for building scooter: Getting all the bits 1'd ordered for her.
If you did it again, what would you change: Swift exhaust.
What was your proudest moment: Getting heron the road.
What do you reckon was or is a waste of money: Chrome - next time I'll stove enamel it.
Is she reliable: Very much so, I've had her on the road for 6 months and she's been great.
Cruise speed: 80-85mph and does 50 mpg.
Top end: 90mpg.
Do you have any other scoots: Series 2 and I'm buying a `D' model.
Cost: £3,000.
Anything else you'd like to say: Yes, the original inspiration for the scooter was Athena, the scooter in Scooter Scene. I'd like to thank my missus for putting up with me. Also I'd like to ask when are scooterists going to live with each other and stop slagging off each other's tastes and styles.
